Volunteer-employees from Davao Light and Power Co., Inc., an AboitizPower subsidiary, were armed with sticks and trash bags during the celebration of the International Coastal Cleanup Day last September 15, 2018 at the Cleanergy Park at Sitio Punta Dumalag, Matina Aplaya, Davao City.

Also present during the event were volunteers from Apo Agua Infrastructura, Rotary Club of Davao, Bernardo Carpio National High School (BCNHS) and Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU).

A total of 71 sacks of trash were collectively gathered. Aside from the usual plastics, a part of a computer monitor was also found on the shore. This is an indicator that many have neglected their duties as responsi- ble citizens of the planet earth.

“The International Coastal Cleanup Day is a good reminder to all that the seas must be protected, cared for and kept clean as this is the home of marine species. Let us continue our efforts to keep the seas clean as we are in the same way protecting the endangered species especially the sea turtles,” said Davao Light Community Relations Manager Fermin Edillon.

AdDU and BCNHS ended the activity by planting mangrove seedlings in support to Davao Light’s advocacy to preserve the pawikan nesting grounds.
