Exes Baggage: A Feature Length Meme
It’s nice to see Angelica Panganiban and Carlo Aquino together in a romcom movie project. And that is exactly what this movie is all about.
It’s clear to see that both actors are really good in their craft, perhaps because they have been doing this since they were children.
The chemistry and their charisma are oozing out of the screen. Along with the topic, which is about moving on from past relationships, this movie has the perfect recipe to satisfy the audience’s shallow emotions.
And that is all there is to see in this movie. It aims to make the audience feel “kilig” and giggle for a few scenes. It also sprinkles a little bit of nostalgia for the 90s kids who were and still are CarGel fans.
Aside from the fan service and the stirring of shallow emotions, there is really nothing else to it. The storytelling tried to be unique, but it really is not. The dialogues were also nothing new.
Instead of showing the audience something new about the topic of exes or offering suggestions on how to move on from failed relationships, the movie just provided some pre-existing notions about the topic.
It’s like the writer made a survey on social media on the most popular memes about exes and compiled them into one movie.
That’s exactly what the movie ended up looking like. It’s as if every scene is tailored to be screenshots of memes that would go viral online.
If you just want your shallow emotions stimulated, then this film has the entertainment value for you. If you think you deserve something better from the entertainment industry, watch another film.
