The participation of the local government units (LGUs) is a big help in addressing the issue on food security, Agriculture secretary Emmanuel Piñol said.

Piñol underscored that the close coordination of the LGUs will help assess for DA in knowing the needs of the cities which agriculture is a huge sector in their economic activity.

“As I were saying this event is very simple, it actually hinges on the belief that if only, the DA and the LGUs would come to a firm and strong partnership, we could provide enough food supply in this country,” Piñol said in a media forum on Friday, October 05, 2018 at the National Food Security Summit

The agriculture undersecretary said the city mayors who attended the event can help already in meeting up with different local officials in also meeting the demands on food security from their different cities.

“This actually can be done by conducting series of forums where we ask the mayors how many people live in your area. What do you need in order to feed your people,” Piñol said.

He also mentioned the importance of summits like the National Food Security Summit in becoming as an avenue not only for discussion and future planning, but also coming up with concrete actions.

Piñol said the resolutions and the future plans crafted during the summit by the delegates in the summit will be consolidated by the DA and will be presented to president Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

“We will also be asking the mayors to come and join with us as well in presenting the future plans to the president,” Piñol added. /
