When will Reed be good riddance?

When twice they lost to Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwoods, Reed redefined sportsmanship. He sulked unstoppably.

While virtually everybody from the US Team was ruing the rout it had suffered in the recent Ryder Cup, one American was doing something else.

Patrick Reed was talking to the New York Times, pouring out more poison to the wounds of defeat.

Reed told the Times, “The issue’s obviously with Jordan [Spieth] not wanting to play with me. I don’t have any issue with Jordan. When it comes right down to it, I don’t care if I like the person I’m paired with or if the person likes me as long as it works and it sets up the team for success. He and I know how to make each other better. We know how to get the job done.”

Reed blamed Spieth for them not playing together and US captain Jim Furyk for twice benching Reed.

Reed must learn from Sam Torrance about teamwork.

In 1985, Torrance won the clinching match for Europe. His win was used as an inspirational video for Team Europe before the Ryder Cup’s start this year. Said Torrance: “It’s not about taking part. It’s about winning. Nothing else.”

After Europe went up 10-6 at Le Nacional in Paris, Europe captain Thomas Bjorn said: “This is 12 players, and we do this together. We’ve been playing with eight in every session, but it’s about 12, and we felt like we’ve been a whole team on the golf course every session.”

Twelve players even if one or a couple had been benched.

But AP’s Doug Ferguson wrote: “Reed is one of 12 only if he gets it his way.” Doug cited Reed’s dig on Woods: “Any time you get to tee it up with Big Cat (Woods), it’s always fun.”

Fake. When they lost, Mr. Reed became Mr. Rant.

When twice they lost to Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwoods (in 17 holes and in 14 holes), Reed redefined sportsmanship. He sulked unstoppably.

While Reed was benched a second time, he said: “For somebody as successful in the Ryder Cup as I am, I don’t think it’s smart to sit me twice.”

“Reed was right,” said Doug. “Furyk should have sat him three times.”

Isn’t Reed the man who had his own parents thrown out of a golf course because “they bothered my game” after having his own wedding minus his folks— by choice?
