GG Cup opens

The Gaisano Grand (GG) Cup, the longest-running basketball league in Davao City, formally opened yesterday at the Gaisano Grand Citimall SkyGym.

The league pushed through after its supervisio­n returned to Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) Davao. Over 40 teams from six different divisions including the mini, cadet, girls and junior boys and men’s and women’s college divisions, are entered.

SBP executive program officer Ronel Leuterio, in his opening message, underscore­d the values of discipline.

“Not only inside the hard-court but also outside. We in SBP believe in this kind of leagues that’s why we are 100 percent% supportive with this Gaisano Grand Cup,” he said.

Leuterio also bared that the winner of the men’s college division will represent Davao Region in the upcoming Philippine Collegiate Champion’s League (PCCL) Mindanao Finals.

The curtain raiser pitted the Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai Internatio­nal School (PNJKIS) against Colegio de San Ignacio (CDSI) in the mini division as of yesterday presstime followed by the match between Jose Maria College (JMC) and University of Immaculate Concepcion (UIC) in the cadets division.

Arch-rivals Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) and Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) also collided in the women’s college division game as Agro Industrial College Foundation of the Philippine­s (AIFCP) battled STI College in men’s division. /
