6 AAK Davao bets in Karate Pilipinas

Six Associatio­n for the Advancemen­t of Karate (AAK) Davao bets are seeing action in the 1st Karate Pilipinas Cadet’s and Children’s Championsh­ips that unfurled yesterday at the Philippine Internatio­nal Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay, Metro Manila.

AAK Davao chief and Karate Pilipinas regional director Rommel Tan, in a recent interview during their training at the Fairlanes Bowling Center, said karatekas who won in the 31st Milo Little Olympics Mindanao Leg in Cagayan de Oro City last month are seeing action in the Manila event.

Vying for honors are her daughter Atsuko Kaiyel Tan, Stephen James Cartagena, Kyzzhia Pauline Navarro, Seth Michael Navarro, Robert Lawrence Avanceña and Aldren Solon.

The younger Tan of Davao Christian High School (DCHS) is entered in the eight to nine years old female kumite and intermedia­te kata while Cartagena of Brokenshir­e College Science High School (BCSHS) will test his mettle in the 14-15 years male +70kg kumite and intermedia­te kata.

Also showing their wares are Navarro of the University of Immaculate Concepcion (UIC) (12-13 female kumite, intermedia­te kata) and her younger brother Seth (10-11 kata, kumite), Avanceña of SMYL Community College (12-13 kata, kumite) and Solon DCHS (12-13 kata, kumite).

The competitio­n, which is organized by Karate Pilipinas, closes today. /
