Parents and teachers in Davao City are still afraid of the government's School-based Immunization (SBI) program as seen on the low turnout record of the City Health Office (CHO).

“Mababa ang among performance sa immunization that is why we want to coordinate with the media kay nahadlok pa man gud na sila (We have low performance on the immunization because they are still afraid, that is why we want to try to coordinate with the media),” CHO technical officer Julinda Acosta said yesterday in a phone interview with SunStar Davao.

She said that in each school they visited, only 20 to 25 percent of parents would consent to immunizing their children, resulting to the low turnout.

The SBI project of the city government started last September and was expected to end two to three months after.

However, Acosta said that due to the lack of trust and fear on the Dengvaxia case, the project failed to follow its target timeline.

“Dili tana sila mahadlok na kay sayang kaayo ang mga vaccines and sayang pud ang opportunity na ma-use nila ang protection (I hope that they will not fear the vaccines anymore because it's a waste not to use the vaccines and its protection from diseases),” Acosta said.

She added that they will plan a second visit after massive information dissemination through the media. /
