PNP BACKS DISQUALIFYING NARCO-CANDIDATES
Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año stated earlier that he is seeking for the disqualification of candidates involved in drugs in the 2019 elections
Manila -- Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Benigno Durana Jr. expressed support for the possible disqualification of the 2019 poll candidates included in the narco-list.
“Kung ma-disqualified sila, so much the better. I don’t know the requirements of the Comelec (Commission on Election) as to the accreditation of the potential candidates or candidates but it’s good that this early, ma-disqualified sila,” he said.
Durana said it will depend on whether there would be legal basis to disqualify them.
“I don’t know if they will be disqualified by virtue of an intel report parang hindi, I think.. I’ve heard somewhere that being in the narco list is not a disqualification for you I don’t know if it is just an intelligence report but if there is solid evidence that can stand in court probably that can be considered as one point for disqualification,” he added.
Earlier, Interior and Local Government secretary Eduardo Año said as part of the government’s war on drugs, he will seek the disqualification of the candidates for the 2019 elections who are included in the government’s list of people involved in illegal drugs activities.
Newly-designated Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo earlier said the Comelec cannot disqualify a candidate “on the basis of suspicion.”
At the end of the day, Durana said the narcopoliticians’ fate depends on the voters.
“I think my advice is for everyone that our vote would matter a lot even though it’s just one vote it would matter a lot in the course of our nationalized talagang dapat piliin natin ‘yung mga pinuno na may puso’t damdamin at pagmamahal sa taong bayan at sa bansa,” he said.
