Davao Occidental provincial government gives hands-on training on fish processing to increase eel production Participants were able to learn the process of making different by-products of eel, like burger patties, embutido, etc.
MALITA, Davao Occidental – The Provincial Government of Davao Occidental initiated a fish processing training for stakeholders in an aim to boost the eel production in the province.
Davao Occidental has an Eel Learning Center located in Brgy. Tubalan, Malita which houses 26,500 eels, 6,000 of which are ready for harvest.
Through the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO), the Provincial LGU in collaboration with the Provincial Science and Technology Center in Davao Occidental, conducted the “Fish Processing Training on Value-added Eel Products.”
The three-day training held in Barangay Tubalan in the municipality of Malita, gathered participants from both the private and public sectors.
The participants were introduced on the process of making different by-products of eel such as burger patties, imbutido, nuggets, siomai, tunarizo, and tocino.
Currently, Davao Occidental has an Eel Learning Center located in Brgy. Tubalan, Malita which houses 26,500 eels, 6,000 of which are ready for harvest.
With the abundance of resources but lack of training, the provincial government deemed it necessary to initiate a fish processing training.
PPDO Chief Robert Bellarmine R. Bajo said the provincial LGU aims to promote Malita as a booming food processor of eel products in the region.
He urged entrepreneurs in Davao Occidental to be more innovative and resourceful. /
