The ACT Frustration

- DANNY ABRIGO abrigodann@gmail.com

This is a sequel to my article published in this paper on October 12, 2018 exposing the schools as hatching ground of communism.

During Cory’s administration, there was a long debate as to who will get the lion’s share in the national budget, education or defense. The debate stemmed from an intelligence report that communism is infiltrating the schools, where teachers are injecting perverse ideology to their students. The assessment is critical whether to cut the cells of communism at the hatching stage or to cut its fully developed veins through arm struggle.

The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT), a progressive and militant teachers’ organization was established on June 26, 1982. This organization is among the front organizations under the shield of the NDF, and very vocal of their demands to increase not only the education budget but also their allowances from the LGUs.

In Davao city for instance, the group demanded an allowance from the city government of P34,000 per year, broken down as P2,000 per month; plus a quarterly rice allowance of P2,500 every quarter. Had this been granted, the city government will be obliged to dispense P406 million a year for the 11,959 DepEd personnel.

But mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio did not only ruled out the demand, but named them as terrorists, sympathizers of terrorists and liars.

The irate mayor even challenged the DepEd officials to dismiss the terrorists from their ranks. The same challenge she intoned to the congress leadership to expel its members from the Makabayan bloc, the milking cow of the terrorists.

In the 2019 national budget, education tops in all departments yet the frustrated ACT members, ACTing as crying babies still criticized the budget for the slight drop to 6.37% compared to the 2018 budget.

Raising the budget for education is not a guarantee that these educators will stop indoctrinating the youth of their sick ideology unless the education department itself will purge their ranks and files.

Mayor Sara maintained, why is our government supporting the same people who want to overthrow it? “Pag nakapasa na ang Universal Health Care at napirmahan na, it will now be 100 percent coverage to all Filipinos basta Pilipino ka automatic ikaw ay miymebro na ng health insurance or Philhealth”
