P3.3-M damaged in twin fire

Some 100 houses were razed during the twin fire Thursday in Agdao and Bucana, Davao City, damaging an estimated P3.3 million worth of properties.

Senior Fire Officer (SFO2) Ramil Gillado, officer in charge of the Intelligen­ce and Investigat­ion Section of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) 11, said yesterday that the first fire occurred around 12:48 p.m. at Purok Sta. Cruz, Barangay Leon Garcia in Agdao.

Allegedly, it started at the second floor of the house owned by Luvegildo Maylas Sr. particular­ly in the bedroom occupied by Maylas. Based on the initial investigat­ion, the probable cause is overheated electrical appliance.

The alarm status has reached to third after the fire began to engulf around 40 houses. It was contained around 1:37 p.m. by the responding units of Central, Bangoy, Lanang, SIR, 911, Davao Volunteer Fire Brigade (DVFB), Filipino Chinese Firefighte­rs Foundation Davao (FCFF), Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Special Rescue Unit (SRU).

The damage has reached to P1,547,500 with no recorded casualties.

Meanwhile, more or less 60 houses were totally damaged by fire at Purok 12, St. John, Barangay 76, Bucana, Davao City.

The alarm started at around 8:07 p.m. at the residence of one Josephine Sanggo, particular­ly at the ceiling portion which is believed to be caused by electrical short circuit.

The fire was declared under control around 9:10 p.m. through the help of responding units from SIR, Bangoy, Central Alpha and Bravo, SRU, EMS, 911 FAS, DVFB, FCFF, Barangay 19, Matina Crossing and Balusong Rescue. /
