PSC, Deped partner on grassroots sports
We hope to be able to train our teacher-coaches and get them to speed up with the developments in different sports. The more knowledgeable they are, all the better they can teach our youth.

Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez will lead the strategic planning on the proposed partnership on grassroots sports between the national sports agency and the Department of Education from November 5 to 7 in Davao City.
Ramirez said the partnership has been in the works for some months now and that the planning session shall help finalize plans to partner with Deped on expanding PSC’s grassroots development program.
“We hope to be able to train our teacher-coaches and get them to speed up with the developments in different sports. The more knowledgeable they are, all the better they can teach our youth,” Ramirez said.
Also on the table for discussion is a unified sports calendar which will sync the Batang Pinoy, Philippine National Games, regional athletic meets and the Palarong Pambansa.
Ramirez said that this is one of the main concerns raised by different parties during a series of consultative meetings with schools, universities, colleges and local government units. “We have to admit that resources to fund the training and participation of athletes are limited so we have to be able to give them a well-planned calendar so they can also do their own planning,” the PSC chief added.
Initial meetings with Deped counterparts were conducted, the most recent one was held at Philsports Complex last week.
After the strategic planning with Deped, a consultative meeting and planning with the Philippine Olympic Committee and different national sports associations is being organized end of November. /
