The city government of Davao will bare the winner of the most child-friendly barangay on November 28 in line with the 26th National Children’s Month.

The 182 barangays in the city were assessed by the Davao City Social Service and Development Office (CSSDO) along with other government and non-government agencies since last year.

“Davao City, being the hall of famer of mostchild friendly city sa highly-urbanized category, and atong gihimo para ma-sustain ni siya, naa ta’y gihimo na search (Davao City, being the hall famer for most child-friendly city in the highly-urbanized category conducted the search),” CSSDO head Maria Luisa Bermudo said in her speech during the flag ceremony yesterday.

She also said the ongoing evaluation is based on the barangay’s activities including children participation, initiatives to address the needs of the children and child-friendly structures, among others.

“Actually ang evaluation medyo parehas ra pud sa national level, from budget, planning, ordinances (The evaluation was somehow similar to the national level from budget, planning, ordinances),” Bermudo told reporters yesterday.

Davao was feted as the most child-friendly city in the country in 2017 and this prompted the city to localize the recognition to encourage barangays to hold more programs and activities for children.

Children’s participation will also help mold them into becoming better citizens of the community.
