New Bataan, Comval– Troops from the 66th Infantry Kabalikat Battalion who were conducting operations in the hinterlands of New Bataan on October 30, Tuesday, encountered around five New Peoples Army members near a mining site in Piagaban- gan, Barangay Andap, New Bataan, Compostela Valley Province.

Two NPA members immediately surrendered after the troops seized their post. They were identified as, alias Romy, political guide, and alias Dandan, member, both of Pulang Bagani Command 8.

The 66th Infantry Battalion launched a strike operation after a civilian informed them of the armed men’s presence in the mining area asking for revolutionary tax and conducting recruitment.

NPAs operating in the area had not visited the place for a long period of time. However, after the troops dismantled some of their groups and units in the area, they tried to recover their lost grounds.

Thus, they are forcibly recruiting individuals to fill up the loss of manpower.

The NPAs have been denounced by the communities where they have previously thrived, thus forcing them to target other places like mining areas.

“To all Kabalikat troopers, you have just further demonstrated your sincerity towards the realization of our campaign... We have gone this far in our campaign through our diligent efforts in discharging our mandate in protecting the peace,” Brigadier Genera Reuben S. Basiao, AFP, commander of the 701st Infantry Brigade said. /
