3rd rape suspect killed this year

Another rape suspect, the third this year, was killed inside the police station yesterday after allegedly attempting to grab the firearms of on-duty police officers.

Based on the police report provided by Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokespers­on Police Senior Inspector Ma. Teresita Gaspan, around 10:20 a.m. on December 12, the suspect on sexual assault of a kindergart­en pupil identified as Eduardo Sabino Cecondes, 41, single and a resident of Kasilak, Bucana, Barangay 76-A, Davao City was killed.

He has a pending case of rape after he sexually molested the five-year-old child evening of December 9 in an uninhabite­d building located in the area while he was under the influence of alcohol.

The incident happened while he was undergoing the Automated Fingerprin­t Identifica­tion System (Afis) inside the office lobby of San Pedro Police Station.

But, during the processing, he suddenly grabbed the service gun of one of the police officers who was facilitati­ng the Afis. The suspect aimed towards him and other police officers in the area. His back-up, a Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) investigat­or, shot the suspect hitting him on his chest. He

was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

The Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco) team, who processed the crime scene, recovered three fired cartridge cases of caliber 9mm; fingerprin­t card of the suspect, issued firearm of the police officer with serial # 33528 with one magazine assemble loaded with four live ammunition; caliber 9mm issued firearm of another responding officer with serial # 18893 with one magazine assembly loaded with 16 live ammunition.

The investigat­ion team from Investigat­ion and Detective Management Branch (IMDB) of DCPO was dispatched to San Pedro Police Station to conduct a parallel investigat­ion on the incident and has requested for the Moto Propio Investigat­ion from the City Internal Affairs Service (CIAS).

It can be recalled that in June this year, a suspect, who allegedly raped and killed a 16-yearold girl, was arrested on June 23 by members of the Talomo Police Station in Bago Gallera, Davao City. The suspect was identified as James Barrete Narte, 35, a laborer, separated from his family and neighbor of the victim in Barangay Bago Gallera in Talomo District. Almost a week later, he was killed when he allegedly assaulted a cop.

In another incident, almost a month since his arrest, the suspect behind the brutal slay of a six-year-old child at Kilometer 9, Purok 11-A, Matina Pangi, Davao City succumbed to a gunshot wound on October 16, inside his detention facility after he allegedly fought back and tried to snatch the service firearm of a jail guard. He was identified as Rico Jay Lauron Labao, 27, constructi­on worker and resident of Morio-Morio in the same barangay.
