Brigada starts
Some schools occupied by the athletes and delegates of the Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) 2019 National Games were not able to fully implement its Brigada Eskwela activities, which supposedly officially kicked off yesterday, May 20.
Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Sr. Elementary School, located in C. Bangoy Street, changed the Department of Education's yearly activity to May 27 instead as it is being occupied by the delegates of Prisaa.
A parent, who requested to remain anonymous, told Sunstar Davao that he was not informed that the Brigada at his son's school was moved to next week.
He brought with him some walis tambo and a can of paint, which he would have donated.
Davao City National High School had kicked off its annual school cleanup. However, only some areas in the school were cleaned up as some rooms were occupied by the sporting event's technical officials.
Deped-Davao spokesperson Jenielito Atillo said the schedule of the Brigada will be under the discretion of the school's principal.
"Understandable man na na bahin. Di pud maayo nga mag-Brigada Eskwela while we still have our visitors (It is understood that it is not proper to conduct the Brigada while we still have our visitors). They can have the Brigada schedule even after the hosting," Atillo told Sunstar Davao on Monday.
He also said he believes that the schools' officials where the Prisaa delegates are headquartered informed the parents about it.
"I would like to suggest sa school na balik-balik i-inform ila mga constituents para ang presence sa mga parents dili masayang (I would like to suggest to the school officials for a continuous information dissemination to its constituents so that the presence of the parent won't go to waste)," Atillo said. He said although Prisaa delegates are not obliged to participate in the Brigada before leaving their respective headquarters, but their help in the cleanliness of the school would be appreciated.
"They are not required. We go back to the spirit of Brigada which is volunteerism. It would be wonderful if the visiting delegation will provide assistance during the Brigada," Atillo said.
