SUMMER FUN VALUES SCHOOL AT
As part of the summer program for preschoolers, the children had a day of water play and cooling off inside their inflated pool on the grounds of Values School, Matina. It was just a day of fun for everyone.
This activity was not only fun for the kids but it was also designed to remove the shyness or inhibition of every child. This is especially for those whose social skills need development due to lack of exposure to other children and overexposure to gadget use. Through water play, children also experienced new outlets for self expression.
Aside from water plays, here are suggested activities you can do at home that are both fun and educational. These would also keep them creatively engaged.
Practical life activities
These activities of practical life revolves around caring for self and for the environment. These are also the most important activities for toddlers and preschoolers. Common favorites for this age group are:
- Washing plastic dishes and trays
- Simple flower arranging
- Handwashing
- Pouring, stirring, and scooping activities - Food preparation
- Tea party picnic
- Buttoning and tying
Sensory Plays
Plays help children develop and improve their gross and fine motor skills, coordination, and concentration. Here are some activities you can keep in mind to help with the senses and motor skills of your children:
- Have your child use his hand to mix and form different colored paints.
- Make a sensory tray filled with rice, cotton balls, beans, ice, and cooked spaghetti noodles.
- Prepare water balloon and bubble filled bath tub
- Sand play
- Squeeze and squash jelly - Ice boats
- Building with blocks
Communication and Language Activities
Development of language is important for success in school. If your child can speak and understand well, his learning and reading will improve. - Play the telephone game
- Sing with him
- Read books
- Put on a puppet show
- Set an obstacle course, give him simple instructions.
- Play an I-spy game
- Recite favorite fingerplays
