-

The Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (DCCCII) confirmed the participation of the Alibaba Cloud International in the upcoming Davao Investment Conference (Icon) 2019 to give inputs on information and communication technology (ICT).

DCCCII executive vice president John Carlo Tria said yesterday, May 22, 2019, during the Habi at Kape media forum that the attendance of the Alibaba Group will help businesses in the region to compete in the global digital market.

“The digital economy and the higher rate of digital exchange obviously is what have fueled a lot of interest in Davao for the last three years,” Tria said.

He added that while the region has been noticed in the last few years for its “interesting” growth rate of eight to 10 percent, it also needs to strive in the digital economy.

Other topics that the Alibaba Group may talk about are impact of new technology on the global e-commerce industry, the fourth industrial revolution (4th IR) and other topics that the region should also adapt.

DCCCII Trustee Maria Lourdes Monteverde added that the participation of the group will also pose a good relationship of the country and China.

“This is the first time that the Alibaba Cloud will be here. We are really pushing that Davao will really be in the landscape and so we are banking on the good relationship of the Philippines and China,” she said.

Other confirmed international participants are the two airline giants, namely, the Cathay Pacific and Qatar Airways.

The European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, Inc. (ECCP) also confirmed that they will be showcasing a European Union Country Pavilion which will be comprised of different European companies expanding in the country, particularly in Davao.

The Davao Icon will be on June 20-21 at the SMX Convention Center, SM Lanang Premier, expecting around a thousand participants from the private and public sectors, local and international investment players and guests.
