COOKIES TO BOOST MILK SUPPLY

- BY ARA CASAS-TUMURAN ara3casas@yahoo.com

Three-week postpartum, I got a message from a Facebook user named Tricia Mae Lim. While reading the first few words of her message from my phone’s notification banner, it was weird because an unfamiliar name congratulated me for having a baby and even shared that she is the lactation baker of a certain Sarah (which I later knew she was referring to Miss Sarah Hilomen of GMA Davao.) I was interested so I asked her if I could buy some just to test whether these were really effective or not. She was offering her lactation cookies for free, instead. At the back of my mind, “Okay, let’s give it a try.”

To my surprise, my baby latched longer than her usual routine few hours after I was munching lactation cookies. I was thinking maybe, just maybe, it was because of the cookies.

Moving forward, low milk supply was my worst nightmare when I was returned to work. It would require me to pump more to build stash for my daughter.

So aside from power pumping (a term used to refer to pumping more frequently than the regular schedule of expressing milk), I tried the lactation cookies again. But this time, I bought them.

To my surprise, I was impressed at how it actually showed a difference.

My milk output increased from the 3oz to 5oz!

Lactation goodies are made from ingredients that are called galactagogues like rolled oats, chia seeds, flaxseed, Brewer’s yeast, and etc. They are responsible for the number of calories you need to produce more milk.

Lacto Mom’s dark choco cookies and fudgy brownies are my most favorite. I can finish five of each!

Lactation goodies are also best snacks for other family members, even those who are not breastfeeding. The ingredients are healthy and beneficial to all.

In case you have a friend who is breastfeeding, you might want to help her boost milk supply for her baby by sending out lactation cookies. Check out the FB page and Instagram account of Lacto Mom for prices. Remember, it takes a village to raise a child.

DISCLAIMER:

This is not to humiliate mothers who cannot breastfeed their baby due to several reasons including health conditions. If you’re one of them, don’t worry. There are million ways of expressing our love for our children.
