An open letter to the city library patrons

Dear Señores, I am addressing this letter to you sirs because I noticed that most of the clients of Davao City Library journal and magazine section are male and senior citizens. Soon, many of us will be joining your band, worry-free, accomplished and contented whose only concern is longevity.

We, who belong to the generations after next to you, are happy seeing you tirelessly going to the library at the third level of the Sangguniang Panlungsod building during weekdays. Your regular routine is a good exercise for knees, heart, lungs, and eyes as you speed-read the treasured pages of the dailies.

Aside from having a good exercise of limbs and senses, you maintained your youngster habit of feeding your mind with good foods for thought, as printed materials are filtered by the editors; unlike the intermingling information from the internet, the youth reveling today.

While inside the library and you need to relieve as frequently with your age, the city government has provided a well-maintained comfort station, few steps away on the same floor level with abundant supply and fresh potable water.

The library personnel also are considerate of your need to nap at reading intervals. They maintained a clean, finely padded leather sofas and rattan settees with appropriate temperature for you to delight in, while the scorching sun

ruled outside.

Had it not of this wonderful rendezvous, I could not imagine how your life is going to be at home viewing TV, sipping cups of coffee, puffing unaccounted sticks of cigarettes and at time, binge drinking with friends just to drown the boring day.

Certainly, I am way younger than you but I also enjoy reading current events. I also chose the city library for the comfort it offers; and besides no existing newsstand in the sidewalks and nooks of the city to catch all newspapers at once. I usually spend an hour or two at midday, while most of you have just taken your lunch and in shuteye.

As I observed, many of you are reading this paper than any other local dailies in Davao. So, I am writing my supplication through this column because I have no balls to approach whoever you are, as you know you are. If you find that your gut is frequently giving off silent methane, please excuse yourself to the next room and seek comfort. You must understand that the obnoxious gas you release soars straight to the nose of your neighbors and disrupts calmness and concentration.

Lastly, thank you for being honest. By then, all will enjoy reading not only this paper which indisputably got the bigger chunk of readership pie, but also to other informative materials. See you in Davao City Library.
