Davao region harvests 11 gold medals in swimming, taekwondo, boxing, table tennis and athletics on Day 4 of the National Prisaa Games as of 2 p.m. yesterday

Over at the Matina Town Square (MTS) tent, taekwondo jins Jerwin Garcia (secondary boys kyorugi featherwei­ght), Megan Macla (secondary girls bantamweig­ht), Trecia Mae Onato (secondary girls lightweigh­t) and Yeya Yaoto (secondary girls light heavyweigh­t) captured golds for the host region.

In boxing, of the three Davao finalists, only Paul Julyfer Celis Bascon, 21, survived via a split decision win over Romel Bale of Soccsksarg­en in their college men's middleweig­ht clash at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center Wednesday afternoon. Davao pugs bantamweig­ht Curt Manigsasa and lightweigh­t Jomari Rubin lost to Soccsksarg­en opponents RV Deñega and El John Dela Peña, respective­ly.

Meanwhile, Davao's junior mixed doubles team of Aldro John Dante and Kerstine Peralta clinched a gold in table tennis at the Davao Doctors College gym while runner Jericko Juyo pocketed his second gold at the UM Matina track oval. Juyo, 18, an incoming Grade 12 student of Emar Human and Environmen­tal College (Ehec) topped the junior boys 3,000m steeplecha­se yesterday following a golden finish in 5,000m run.

Davao region collected four gold medals in swimming, four golds in taekwondo, one each in boxing, table tennis and athletics in the penultimat­e day of National Prisaa Games 2019 action in separate venues as of yesterday presstime.

Davao City tanker Eirron Seth Vibar ended his second Prisaa stint with a total of four golds, one silver and two bronzes in the swimming competitio­n held at the Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex in Tagum City.

The 16-year-old ace topped the junior boys 400-meter freestyle event, clocking four minutes and 28.88 seconds to beat John Neil Paderes of Calabarzon (4:30.34) and Anthony Presas of Central Visayas (4:40.55) who grabbed the next two spots.

"Average performanc­e po. Most of my swims bad time po at is not my best po but I'm still satisfied with my result and I hope na I can do better next time," said Vibar who also helped the region win a silver in 4X100 medley relay and 4X200 freestyle relay yesterday. He bagged the 200m freestyle, 400 individual medley and 1,500m freestyle golds in the first two days of competitio­n.

The junior girls medley relay team of Mary Grace Batalla, Ianika Denisse Beciera, Alyssa Raut and Ezra Marie Villaruz, Enzo Malayang (junior boys 100m freestyle) and the junior boys 200m freestyle relay team of Malayang, Chad Espina, Ralph Balandra and Ralph Guico also delivered
