Tagum's annual biz target reached

Business growth is relatively taking fast pace in Tagum City as the Business Permit and Licensing Division (BPLD) has already achieved its annual target as of mid-April.

In an interview during the Kapihan sa Kapitolyo, BPLD license officer III Anna Jean B. Montoya said they had already generated their P255 million annual target as of April 20 from tax dues of business taxpayers.

She was optimistic that BLPD would be able to surpass a P300 million mark of generated business taxes by yearend.

“Increasing jud ang business sa Tagum. Daghan na jud ta og investors nga misulod sa Tagum. Makita nato ang economic dynamism… grabe jud ang growth sa Tagum. (Business in Tagum is indeed growing; a number of investors are coming in. We are seeing its economic dynamism.),” she said.

Montoya noted that the large bulk of the generated P255 million flowed to the city coffers from the retailing services sector covering those merchandise and food.

“Dako og kolekta from those engaged in retailing services apil na diha ang goods and basic commodities. (Much have been collected from those engaged in the retailing services including goods and basic commodities.),” she said.

She credited the strategic position of Tagum at the intersection of transport routes to Compostela Valley enroute to Butuan in Caraga Region, to Davao Oriental and to Bukidnon passing through Talaingod, Davao del Norte as a factor contributing to the growth of income generated from retailing.

The generated business tax payments grew parallel with the increasing number of business permits issued that totaled as of May this year to 11,000 from 9,800 total of business permits issued last year, she said.

The BLPD of the City Government of Tagum pegged its target for generated business taxes at P205 million in 2018. Montoya said BLPD raised its target to P255 million this year and she was positive that targets would hike noting the trend of business growth in the City of Tagum.

Montoya cashed in on the massive business and tax inspection strategy of the City Government to generate due tax from operating businesses down to purok levels./PIA
