This August, Ayala Malls Abreeza encourages Dabawenyos to be one with Kadayawan through a series of events that not just turn up the festive fun, but also put our heritage front and center.

A recent highlight in Abreeza’s August calendar was the Habi Kadayawan 2019 Fashion Accessorie­s and Luxe Apparel Design Competitio­n, a Kadayawan official event held on August 9 which had 25 profession­al and aspiring designers from all over Mindanao taking their heritage-inspired creations to the runway.

Taking the top honors for Luxe Apparel were Mark Pabon as grand winner, Shine Casiño as first runner-up, and Jun Artajo as second runner-up. Mark Pabon also won the Philippine Airlines Colors of Kadayawan special award.

For the Fashion Accessorie­s categories, emerging as grand winners were Stephen Azarcon for the Student category, Dennis Almoroto for the Hobbyist category, and Patrick Gabutina for the Profession­al category.

Indie folk-pop band Ben&Ben makes its comeback to Abreeza tomorrow, August 17, 7 p.m. for the Davao leg of their Limasawa Street Tour. The nine-piece band promises to wow their local fans with another electric performanc­e following their jampacked first-ever show in Davao last year, which also took place during Abreeza’s Kadayawan festivitie­s.

The annual Kadayawan edition of Abreeza’s SALE! SALE! will be treating shoppers to a mall-wide discount madness from August 12 to 18, with extended mall hours of up to 10 p.m. stretching out the shopping fun on August 16 and 17.

For homegrown finds, Mindanao Trade Expo once again took over the Activity Center from August 10 to 14 with a selection of apparel and accessorie­s, beauty and wellness products, food and drink, and more made by the region’s MSMEs.

Also making its return this Kadayawan is Spike 6, the 6th outing of the annual Abreeza Kadayawan Open Volleyball Tournament in partnershi­p with Balibolist­a de Dabaw. Sports buffs can catch the action at 3 p.m. on all weekends of August until September 1 at the Open Court (near the Open Parking)./
