HAPPY AND LASTING MARRIAGE

- BY APPLE G. ALVAREZ, RN, MN

One of the most important relationships is between a husband and a wife. People even believed that a marital relationship greatly impacts the lives of many. But sometimes, the sweet relationship turns into sour because, over the years, life becomes so busy –checking on kids, earning a stable income and fulfilling other parental roles. Indeed, sometimes husbands and wives may be living in one roof but having separate lives.

For everyone desiring to have a lasting marriage, allow me to share the art of nourishing marriage in this contemporary world that is so demanding.

First, it is important to grow together as husbands and wives. Busy is an alternative word for “no concern”. “No concern” is another word for your unkind partner. It is so sad to be with a partner one cannot talk to or just lie down on bed embracing in silence. The absence of quality time is one of the weapons of marriage destruction. And so, I must say, that happiness in marriage is only real when it is shared. What a wonderful feeling to stay with each other in all sorrow and pain!

Second, it is also essential to grow apart with enough space to grow as a person individually. Earlier I said that togetherness is essential in marriage but remember that a person should perceive his own worth before making others feel their worth. So, let there be space in a couple’s togetherness but not to divide the two human souls. It is simply putting trust and faith in your partner to do things on his own and seeing the glow of happiness.
