THE third Sikad Tuburan, which organizers say to be a more difficult course than the past two editions, expects over 200 riders on March 1.

Organizer Mary Ann Fuertes, former Interface Development Interventions (Idis) executive director, bared this during yesterday’s Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at The Annex of SM City Davao.

Fuertes, who was accompanied by Tuburan Institute Inc.’s Carlos Neiko Villamero, said: “It’s a challenging trail. More than times two ang nadungag sa course kay dati fourteen karon at least 30 kilometers na (The distance more than doubled this year with 30 kilometers from last year’s 14 kilometers).”

She also said that they did not have a lot of modifications in the event this year as they were only focused on sustaining the fund-raising event that aims to promote environmental conversation through biking as alternative mode of transportation.

However, she took pride in their customized trophies made of recycled cycling parts by Kabunyan De Guia, who also hails from Barangay Tugbok Proper, Tugbok District in Davao City where host school Tuburan Institute, Inc. is currently located.

Use of plastics are discouraged during the race, thus, organizers will only provide refilling stations and participants must bring their own tumblers.

Registration is P300 for fun ride (seven to 12 years old), 13-29 years old, 30-39 years old, 40-above and competitive 18-29 years old, 30-39 years old and 40-above categories inclusive of packed lunch, souvenir shirt and raffle coupon.

Onsite registration at Mintal Gym is set on March 1 from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m.

Medals await top 10 finishers of fun ride categories while cash prizes of P3,000, P2,000, P1,000 and P500 will be awarded to the fourth placers in competitive categories.

The annual bikefest, she added, aims to raise funds for the institute’s operational needs since the school only have few students and parents could not usually pay the full tuition of their children. For inquiry, contact (0905) 402-4684 or (0933) 468-1783.
