20 COVID-19 CASES IN R11 ARE LOCAL TRANSMISSIONS
Most of the local transmission cases were traced back to the New Davao Matina Gallera
THE Department of Health (DOH) Davao bared yesterday that a total of 20 patients who are positive for coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the region are cases of local transmission.
In a virtual presser yesterday spearheaded by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Davao, DOH-Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (Resu) Davao chief Dr. Cleo Fe Tabada said 25 percent of the total cases of Covid-19 in the region were locally transmitted.
Based on the Regional Situation update on Covid-19 in Davao Region as of 8 p.m. on April 5, there are now a total of 80 confirmed cases recorded in Davao Region with 11 deaths and 21 recoveries.
“Only a few about 25 percent dunay local [transmission] rather we could not trace them to a travel or direct contact with an incident outside the region. Basically, they were infected within the region, about 25 percent of those cases,” Tabada said yesterday.
She added that most of the cases are still those who have travel history in Manila, Cebu, from other regions and those who traveled to another country.
In the regional breakdown, Davao City topped the most number of Covid-19 positive cases with 65, followed by Davao del Norte with nine, Davao Oriental (3), Davao del Sur (2), and Davao de Oro (1).
According to the previous report of DOH Davao on April 1, six patients are being treated in two Covid-19 referral centers in the region, one recovered, and four died. Some of these patients have travel history to New Davao Matina Gallera cockpit in Davao City where most of the local transmission happened.
Tabada added that a contact tracing has been done to locate other derby goers who attended the cockfight in Matina. In the number of people they already contacted and traced, there are 139 in Davao City, Davao del Norte (19), Davao del Sur (127), Davao de Oro (5), Davao Oriental (90), Davao Occidental (1), and 46 from other regions.
She further said that out of the 11 deaths in the region, eight of the positive patients who died are connected to the New Davao Matina Gallera cockfight.
