Davao posts 35.7% in Covid-19 recoveries

- JCR

DAVAO Region posted around 35.7 percent of the total recoveries across the country with 30 patients who are now negative from the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) as of April 7.

Based on the Regional Situation Update on Covid-19 in Davao Region as of 5.p.m. on April 7, the Department of Health (DOH) Davao reported new eight patients who recovered, bringing the total number of those who tested negative in the region to 30 recoveries.

In the country, there are about 84 recoveries as of 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

In Davao City alone, there are 25 recoveries, three in Davao Oriental, one in Davao del Sur, and one in Davao de Oro.

DOH Davao is currently monitoring a total of 42 Covid-19 positive patients who are undergoing treatment.

Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) chief Dr. Leopoldo Vega said that most of those who recovered have only manifested mild symptoms of Covid-19. On Monday, he said that only four of the 65 patients admitted in their facility are critically ill or those who are intubated in their intensive care unit (ICU).

“Right now, we are doing the right thing, mitigating especially this contagion na nandito ngayon sa atin. I think that it is best that we have long quarantine to keep the contamination down. Initial phases pa kasi tayo. If we drop our guards, and mag-open agad tayo, the possibility really is the surge might come in. Just extend it to the point that we will have a zero-positive coming from the city,” Vega said.

In a video posted by Sittie Rohaina Saban-Manalao yesterday, a staff nurse at SPMC, it showed a patient who was able to recover and was sent home. The patient, still in a wheelchair, was applauded by the hospital staff after emerging from the elevator.

The patient gave a brief speech. He thanked the doctors for their efforts in providing their medical needs despite the potential risk of infection. (Read full story on sunstar.com.ph/Davao)
