Owwa provides IT training for OFWs, dependents
ONE of the programs and services of Owwa is the Information Technology (IT) Training Program. It is a computer literacy program that provides OFWs and their families training and access to technology to bridge the communication gap between the OFW and his/her family and allow them to communicate with each other through the Internet.
The training is open to all active and inactive Owwa members and their families. They are entitled to a 10-day IT training which is provided for free. IT Instructor, Delfa Valenzuela, provides Basic Computer Operations and Digital Media Arts Training which includes Word Processing (Microsoft Word), Spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel), Presentation (Microsoft PowerPoint), Desktop Publishing (MS Office Publisher), Windows Movie Maker and Adobe Photoshop.
From January 2019 to June 2020, a total of 1,512 OFWs and dependents have already availed of the training program. Of this number, 1,022 are OFWs while 490 are dependents.
A total of 1,267 trainees were land-based while 245 were sea-based workers. Every year, the number of availees increased because most of the OFW families want to become computer literate to easily communicate with their loved ones abroad.
Interested OFWs and dependents who wish to avail of the program may visit the Owwa Davao Region Annex, Cam Building, Monteverde St., Davao City or call hotline numbers 0917-7011135/09177011126. Classes are held daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
To observe proper health protocols, only 50% of the total capacity of trainees is allowed inside the computer room. All trainees are required to bring pocket size alcohol, ballpen, bottled water, lunch and snacks, tissue paper, and other personal necessities to avoid going outside frequently. /
