ADDU HS ‘96 REACHES OUT TO REMOTE BRGYS

THE Ateneo de Davao High School Batch 1996 (ADDU HS ‘96) dubbed as the “Front Knighters” is reaching out to help remote barangays through their monthly outreach projects which are collaborated with different government agencies.

One of these projects was the Multi-Stakeholder Medical Mission and Biodiversity Conservation Outreach Program in Barangay Maragatas in Lupon town spearheaded by the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental.

Held last March 27, it was an activity implemented under Executive Order 70 or the Whole- of –Nation- Approach to End Local Communist Armed Conflict.

AdDU HS ’96 was among those who joined the event which benefited 470 residents of Sitio Logdeck in Barangay Maragatas. The Front Knighters provided medical checkups, handed over donated medicines, distributed 100 school supplies kits, relief and hygiene kits alongside food packs to the beneficiaries.

The relief food packages were from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) while the hygiene kits were from the Department of Health (DOH) and the Southern Philippine Medical Center (SPMC). The University of the Philippines’ (UP) Beta Sigma Fraternity donated the medicines.

Other partners include the National Commission for the Indigenous People (NCIP), Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Sitio Logdeck is an upland community where residents depend on growing coconuts and corn. It was formerly a hotbed of communist insurgents and is the focus of government efforts to bring sustained peace and development to the area.

AdDU HS’96 is currently the host for this year’s Ateneo de Davao Grand Alumni Homecoming.

Emmanuel Francis Torre, batch president of AdDU HS ’96 said with the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic the annual homecoming event usually held on Dec. 30 will be different. Aside from the homecoming the batch is embarking on a year-long series of outreach and legacy projects made possible through partnerships and collaboration.

He said the batch is rallying their batchmates for their upcoming outreach projects, their engagements an embodiment of their batch name the “Front Knighters.”

“Our batch has decided to adopt the name ‘Front Knighters’ paying homage to the Blue Knight, a symbol of the Ateneo de Davao University and our expression of solidarity with frontline workers and their dedicated work to make communities safe against Covid-19,” Torre said.

The batch president said the Front Knighters had lined up and are preparing for other outreach sorties to remote hinterland barangays.
