-

AN official from Commission on Elections – Davao Region (Comelec-Davao) said Davao Region tallied 131,170 voter registrations and renewals from December 12 to January 31 for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

Atty. Gay Enumerables, Comelec-Davao assistant regional director, said in an interview with SunStar Davao on February 2, that the figure includes new applications, transfer of residences, and correction of names.

Of the total number of registrations, 14,363 are from the first congressional district, 11,581 from the second district, and 16,494 from the third district.

“Daghan daghan jud (We have a lot of registrants for this year’s registration), most probably, [because] for all the districts [in Davao City], naa to’y mga bahaw last July [2022 registration] or kato mga wala nagpa-register atong mga niaging registration (those who missed registration last July had already registered),” Enumerables said.

Meanwhile, for 15 to 17 years old, who are now qualified to vote for Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections, Comelec-Davao tallied 38,796 new registrants.

New registrants ages 18 to 30, who are qualified to vote for this years’ SK elections and for future elections, reached 36,990.

Those who are under 18 years old that had registered for SK must re-register to Comelec for the next elections.

She also said the satellite offices that were set up in shopping malls still accommodated people until around evening of the last day of registration.

Meanwhile, Magsaysay Park, which accommodated third district applicants, had earlier settled down around 5:30 p.m..

Enumerables said Comelec will present the list of registrants after a hearing with Election Registration Board (ERB).

“Moagi pa siya [ang registration data] og approval sa Election Registration Board (ERB), mag-agi pa mi ana og hearing… then mag-finalize mi sa among list [of official voters] (The data will have to get the approval of the ERB, which will hold hearing on it and then finalize the list),” she said.

As of press time, Comelec had not released the schedule for candidacy filing and campaign period for those who want to run for BSKE. /
