Aby Maraño excited for Chery Tiggo’s PNVF Champions League debut

CHERY Tiggo team captain Aby Maraño is excited to play in the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) Champions League set to start on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila.

The veteran Maraño, one of the defunct F2 Logistics Cargo Movers transferee­s, said their goal is to win the championsh­ip and expressed confidence their team is prepared for the tournament.

“To be the champions,” Maraño told a packed Philippine Sports Commission Conference Room during Friday’s Champions League press launch. “I and my new team won’t allow our hardship and dedication in training to go to waste.”

Maraño, 31, who played for the Uaap champion DLSU Lady Spikers during her college days, is among the stars, whom fans await in her first commercial league appearance since moving to the Cargo Movers several years ago.

Chery Tiggo is among the teams to watch in the fiveteam women’s division of the Champions League organized by the PNVF under president Ramon “Tats” Suzara and secretary-general Donald Caringal.

Also in the press launch were fellow club team player Rem Palma of Petro Gazz and players of defending champion College of Saint Benilde Lady Blazers, Cignal HD Spikers, and Philippine Army Lady Troopers.

“It’s a wide-open field as all teams vow to wage strong fights,” said Caringal of the third edition of the Champions League. “With a balanced cast of seasoned pro clubs, new-look squads, and collegiate teams, expect the matches to be a tossup for the prestigiou­s title.”

Chery Tiggo and Cignal will flex muscles this Sunday’s double-header at 6 p.m. after the collision between the Philippine Army and Petro Gazz at 3:30 p.m. SaintBenil­de opens its campaign against Petro Gazz on Monday.

Meanwhile, reigning champion Cignal HD is favored in the eight-team men’s contest that starts on February 11.

Aside from Cignal, Also in Pool A are PGJC Philippine Navy, Savouge Spin Doctors, and Saint Benilde. At the same time, VNS Asereht Griffins, Iloilo D’Navigators, the Philippine Air Force, and the Philippine Army composed Pool B. /
