BASTE NO-SHOW AT PBBM EVENTS

- BY RALPH LAWRENCE G. LLEMIT

DAVAO City Mayor Sebastian Duterte was a no-show at the public events of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. in the city on Wednesday, February 7.

This comes more than a week after he publicly announced his disappointment of Marcos’ administration, even calling for the President’s resignation.

Instead, it was the mayor’s sister, Vice President Sara Duterte who was with the president.

Marcos first attended the Davao City Bulk Water Supply project. Marcos ordered both public and private sectors to expedite the completion of water projects in the country as he raised the urgency of water security in the Philippines.

The President also led the distribution of around 2,500 e-titles covering an aggregate area of approximately 3,560 hectares across the region to Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) at the Rizal Memorial College.

He also witnessed the ceremonial signing of the civil works contracts for the Davao Public Transport Modernization Project (DPTMP), which coincides with the 125th Founding Anniversary of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) held at the Waterfront Insular Hotel.

Marcos presided over a situation briefing at the Presidential Guest House on Wednesday in the wake of flooding and landslides triggered by the shear line and trough of a low-pressure area in the region.

He has authorized the release of P265 million from his Presidential Social Fund, which is on top of the emergency cash assistance distributed to flood and landslide victims, Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian said.

Davao City received P20 million from the President, which was accepted by a representative from the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO).

Sara was present in all Marcos’ activities, except for the inauguration of the water facility.

Marcos’ visit to the city also comes a week after former President Rodrigo Duterte accused Marcos of being a drug addict.

Mayor Baste did not issue any statement in relation to his absence. /
