DEPED-CARAGA EXTENDS HELP TO FLOOD VICTIMS IN DAVAO
THE Department of Education-Caraga (DepEd-Caraga) exemplifies the true essence of selflessness and solidarity in adversity. As the recent devastating flood ravaged the Davao Region, triggered by the trough of Low-Pressure Area (LPA), DepEd-Caraga rose to the occasion, extending a compassionate hand to those in need.
Led by DepEd-Davao Regional Director Maria Ines C. Asuncion, a wave of neighborly aid swept through the affected communities, demonstrating unwavering support and empathy for the flood victims.
On Friday, February 9, Asuncion, along with key officials of DepEd-Caraga, turned over and distributed relief goods to alleviate the calamity’s suffering.
Despite facing challenges within their region, with Agusan del Sur and Butuan also grappling with flooding, the Caraga Region exemplified selflessness and solidarity by reaching out to their needy neighbors.
The initiative garnered support from various sectors and organizations, as evidenced by the presence of Marc Anthony Singanon from the office of Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go, Maricon Bajo of Panapton Fashion, Michelle Lola of ATB Sourcing, King Belimac, and Dieza Sabate of Maxeom Davao, among others.
Their collective effort underscored the unity and compassion that transcends boundaries in times of crisis.
Asuncion, deeply moved by the plight of the flood victims, recounted her experience witnessing the heartbreaking scenes in Davao del Norte, where families were forced to take shelter on highways amidst rising waters.
Michelle Lola expressed a similar sentiment, recognizing her calling to be a vessel of blessings in the face of adversity.
In her remarks, Asuncion emphasized the profound impact of small acts of kindness, echoing the words of Mother Teresa: “If you can’t feed a hundred people, feed just one.”
“Never worry about numbers. Help one person at a time and always start with the person nearest you.” This philosophy of compassion serves as a guiding principle for the Caraga Region’s initiative, reminding us of the power of empathy and solidarity in times of need.
The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing culminated with a word of appreciation and thanks from DavNor Schools Division Superintendent Reynaldo B. Mellorida.
Asuncion and the team then proceeded to Carmen National High School Gymnasium to distribute the relief goods, extending their support to those in need.
As the floodwaters recede and communities begin the arduous rebuilding process, the camaraderie and compassion embodied by the DepEd Caraga serve as a beacon of hope.
Through their collective efforts, they provided essential aid and uplifted the spirits of those affected, demonstrating that compassion can be our lifebuoy in the raging waters of despair. /
