EMPOWERING MOTHERS’ ASSOCIATION IN DAVAO CITY

-

AS MARCH unfolded, women worldwide were celebrated, and in the heart of Davao City, a beacon of hope brightened the Seaside Mothers Association of Brgy. Matina Aplaya.

Empowered by a livelihood assistance worth P969,764.00 from the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) XI, this association, comprising 27 mothers, embraced the opportunity to elevate their lives and contribute to community development.

Given a boost by the Dole Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP), the intervention strategically allocated funds for raw materials, equipment, social protection, and invaluable training initiatives. The project’s focus on enhancing local bakery production, including bread, pastries, and assorted baked goods, is poised to yield transformative results. The association envisions a remarkable surge in daily production – nearly 2,000 pieces – and anticipates a substantial million-peso increase in net income during its initial three years of operation.

The pivotal moment came on February 29, 2024, as Dir. Henry O. Montilla, the head of the Dole-Davao City Field Office, handed over the cheque to the Barangay Local Government Unit of Matina Aplaya, represented by Brgy. Captain Nestor B. Cirunay, a steadfast accredited co-partner of Dole XI, and Ms. Nikki Oria, President of the Seaside Mothers Association.

In a statement, Regional Director Atty. Randolf C. Pensoy shared that this empowering journey with the Seaside Mothers Association is a testament to the transformative impact of supporting women’s livelihoods. “By investing in their capabilities, we not only enhance individual lives but also foster community growth. The success of this endeavor reflects our commitment to empowering women and creating lasting positive change. May this inspire further collaboration for the betterment of women, families, and communities across our region,” he added.

The Seaside Mothers Association also secured official registration with DOLE XI’s Registration of Workers’ Association (WAS) on December 21, 2023. This solidifies their place in the pursuit of economic prosperity and community well-being, exemplifying the transformative impact of collaboration and support. /
