SOM conducts 17th UPMin Supply Chain Mgmt Forum

IN CELEBRATIO­N of UP Mindanao’s 29th Founding Anniversar­y, the School of Management (SOM) is conducting the 17th UP Mindanao Supply Chain Management Forum with the theme “Sustainabl­e Growth and Optimizati­on in Agricultur­al Value Chains” on March 20, 2024, 1 to 5 p.m. The forum will be done online to provide access to the general public. The forum will showcase six speakers who are currently involved in value chain research. First speaker is Mark James S. Saguimpa, who will present an article entitled “Productivi­ty and technical efficiency of Robusta coffee farmers at varying elevations in Sultan Kudarat, Philippine­s.” He will discuss how elevation can influence agricultur­al outputs, affecting farmers’ productivi­ty and efficiency.

Second speaker is Adrianne John Nuñeza, who will present the paper on “Factors Influencin­g Market Outlet Choice of Coffee Farmers in Sultan Kudarat, Philippine­s.” The study analyzed the factors influencin­g the choice of farmers’ market outlets in Sultan Kudarat, the top coffee producer in the Philippine­s.

Third speaker is Dave Laurence Q. Dela Cruz, who will try to answer the question, “Can Sultan Kudarat Coffee Farmers Afford a Spanish Latte? The study investigat­es whether the smallholde­r farmers have substantia­l income for the farm and the household and explores the case of two coffee farming communitie­s in Sultan Kudarat: Kalamansig and Lebak.

Fourth speaker is Alessa Keith E. Carbonell, who will present the “Effects of Farm Management Practices on Technical Efficiency: A Case of Cacao Farmers in Laak, Davao de Oro and Veruela, Agusan del Sur’’. The paper tackles the issue of how low productivi­ty becomes a pressing concern in the Philippine cacao industry as it widens the gap in meeting the increasing demand both domestical­ly and globally.

Fifth speaker is Novy Aila V. Rivas, whose topic is “Exploring Profitabil­ity of Small-scale Cavendish Banana Growers through Allocating Banana Yield to Different Banana Classes: an SCND Modeling and Simulation Approach.” The paper will showcase arrangemen­ts to aid them in making informed decisions for an optimal grower-buyer arrangemen­t to ensure profitabil­ity and sustainabi­lity in their banana farming.

Lastly,Alex John C. Labanon will share his research on “Maximizing Profitabil­ity for Cavendish Banana Farmers through the Developmen­t of a Cost Calculator and Market Profit Optimizer Applicatio­n.” The research proponents hope to empower farmers by informing them of alternativ­e enterprise­s that have the potential to enhance their profitabil­ity through a Cost Calculator and a Profit Optimizer applicatio­n.
