CR7 FOOD TRUCK BAGS 2 ARAW FOOTBALL PLUMS
THE CR7 Food Truck Football Club (FC) of Davao City emerged as double champions in the recent 87th Araw ng Dabaw Football Festival held at the Davao City-University of the Philippines (UP) Mindanao Sports Complex.
In the men’s open final, Ruben Zaid scored the lone goal, leading CR7 to a 1-0 victory over Agway U19 (DRFA). Agway U19 secured second place, while Impessa FC took third.
The women’s open division witnessed CR7 claiming a hard-fought 3-1 championship win over Intangibles FC, another Davao City-based team, via penalty shootout. After a scoreless draw in regulation, CR7 emerged victorious in the shootout, with goals from Anjealou Queen Repaso, Samaika Lagbawan, and Rianna Tresplacios. Intangibles FC finished as a runner-up, with the UP Mindanao varsity team settling for third place.
Meanwhile, Dave Rosal’s goal lifted Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) FC’s 1-0 win against the Ignatians to claim the boys under-18 championship trophy.
The girls under-18 title went to the Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) Lady Bulldogs, who defeated the Lady Knights FC, 6-2. Janeica Nicole Fernandez and Kristine Joy Dela Peña each made two goals to lead in scoring for the Keith Shelly “Kitoy” Canton-coached Lady Bulldogs. Steffanie Marey Escalante and Angel Nicole Braga added one goal apiece.
Most of RMC’s players will represent the Davao City Durians in the secondary girls futsal tournament of the upcoming Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet 2024.
The Lasang FC, for its part, claimed the boys under-17 crown with a 3-0 win over Mintal Interage Football Club (MIFC), thanks to goals from Cyril C. Saturinas (two goals) and Frenz Joe P. Mahilum (one goal). MIFC and Davao City National High School (DCNHS) Selcouth FC wound up in second and third, respectively.
