HISTORY: IT’S YOUR STORY
CORAZON S. SANDIG
Seeing intrigued students makes me energize to teach more all about our own history; to share more about what I knew about the history; and to share more about my experiences in life. But also seeing frustrated students makes me think a lot - why they are annoyed knowing our history - their own story.
Everytime I entered a classroom, I was like travelling way back to the past - to our history. Seeing the most famous personalities listed on the most famous book I’ve ever known, the Module in Araling Panlipunan. I’ve seen Cyrus the Great’s courage as he answers my questions and actively participates in the discussion. I’ve seen Socrates’ Intelligence as he gets a perfect score in all the tests. I’ve seen Alexander the Great’s hardwork as he eagers to learn new things and tries to achieve a perfect score and I’ve seen all of these personalities in just one classroom. These personalities make me excite to teach and share more.
But also if there are good one. There are also bad one. The one that enters AP Class just to pass the subject, the one that enters AP Class but doesn’t want to learn anything, and the one that enters AP Class just for grades.
In my teaching experience, I’ve met different kinds of historical personalities portrayed by different students. There are bad and good. Bad students are not really bad, they become bad because of lazyness and other unexplainable factors of being in the stage of adolescence. Good students makes me realize that teaching is fun, maybe it is tiring but enjoyable. History is a boring thing to talk to. But it is up to us - to the teachers how we introduces to the students the history and will make the students realize that History is their story...
