SOCIAL STUDIES FOR ALL
As defined in Merriam-Webster, “Social study is a part of a school or college curriculum concerned with the study of social relationships and the functioning of society and usually made up of courses in history, government, economics, civics, sociology, geography, and anthropology.”
Including social studies as a part of the school or college curriculum will help students to understand their social responsibility, ethical issues, and political issues. Additionally, it improves one’s decision making on matters pertaining to everyday life. The student will be guided by the rules and regulations that a better citizen needs to adopt. Students who are well-informed of these policies are those law-abiding individuals. They will gain the information about their civil rights and the law. For instance, the policies in voting, social responsibility in the community, rights as a consumer, etc.
Being properly educated about the history is a great impact for a student to respect one’s culture or tradition. Likewise, it helps individuals to be aware of circumstances in their community or surroundings.
Having a depth knowledge of social studies will develop a student the sense of being human, learns literature and philosophy, be mindful of our economics and how to be cautious of our environment. They will be informed regarding good moral and char act er.
Overall, social studies have a wide range of aspects that can mold a student to be an exceptional citizen.
