ANGELES CITY – Opposition Councilor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. has expressed gratitude to Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan for continuing to hold the Sisig Fest, a signature festival of the city launched in 2003.

Lazatin said the first sisig festival was held during the term of his father Mayor Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin as city mayor.

During the meeting conducted by the Angeles City Tourism Office (ACTO) at the Office of the Mayor, Lazatin vowed to support the Sisig Fiest scheduled on April 29.

“Since this is a pet project of my father, Mayor Lazatin, I am assuring Mayor Pamintuan and the City Tourism Office that you have my support,” Lazatin said.

Sisig is Filipino dish made from pig head parts and liver usually seasoned with calamansi and peppers.

ACTO is the main organizer of this year’s Sisig Fiesta, which is in line with the Department of Tourism’s Flavors of the Philippines campaign.

“It will be a one day event. About 3,000 guests are expected to attend,” John Montances, ACTO chief, said in his communication sent to Lazatin.

Lazatin said he will volunteer as a member of the organizing committee and will push for financial support for the project. The first Sisig Festival was held in May 2003 in Balibago service road. It featured a giant sisig plate where 600 kilos of sisig were prepared.

The following year, the older Lazatin held a bigger sisig festival in Nepo Quadrangle with 2,400 kilos of sisig cooked in the giant sisig plate.

In 2005 and 2006, the former mayor featured 176 and 177 ways to cook sisig.

Former Mayor Lazatin also tried four times to vie for Guinness Book of World Records for largest sisig plate and most number of sisig cooked but failed.

Lazatin, also on several sisig festivals, honored the sisig queen Aling Lucing Cunanan, who popularized sisig in her stall in the famous “Crossing” area in Barangay Agapito Del Rosario here.
