The K-12 program will pave the way for an even brighter future for young Filipinos by equipping them with Basic Education up to international standards,” Former President Benigno Aquino on one of his interview.

The Department of Education (DepEd) implements the enhanced Kto12 (Kindergarten to Grade12) Basic Education Program last S.Y. 2012-2013. The program has composed the additional two years in the basic education (Junior and Senior High) and formally and legally adapted kindergarten as part of the curriculum. Its aim is to provide and enhance the competence of the pupils and students to make the Filipino graduates globally competitive.

The K-12 program was launch in S.Y 2012 through a massive training for the teachers in public and private schools both for elementary and secondary school. Since then, a yearly mass training is conducted for each year level. And finally, this 2017, the K-12 massive training for teachers will finally be completed as a training is scheduled on April for the first batch while the second batch will be on May 2017.

Each year’s seminar aims to provide mastery of concepts and skills, train in developing lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education. As what Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones said “We are doing K to 12 for ourselves and for the Philippine education. We are doing this to be able to compete in our own country so that we can equip our learners with appropriate skills, creativity, and intelligence to cope with the changing w or l d.” — oOo— The author is Teacher II at Mancatian Elementary School, Porac West District
