TEACHER AS INNOVATOR

The salient features of the K to 12 program are realized when a teacher effectivel­y produced and utilized instructio­nal materials in the teaching-learning process. One of these is the production of localized video lessons which was highlighte­d in the school-based seminar workshop entitled; Enhancing Computer Skills of Master Teachers through Video lesson Preparatio­n held on Sept.3, 10 and 17, 2016 at the Angeles City National High School.

The very core of the said seminar was to inspire teachers be innovative in the delivery of their lessons. It is given that innovative teaching requires the use of technology in the classroom to address the pressing needs of the learners. It is in this premise that ICT integratio­n becomes significan­t as part of teacher’s profession­al developmen­t. Alongside, computer literacy is always part of the In-service Training (INSET) for teachers to provide relevant trainings in the producing ICT integrated activities that of great benefit to the learners acquire the needed 21st century skills.

The learning objectives of the said training were to make learning more fun and enjoyable, improve knowledge retention, provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, and increase the MPS level of the learners in English.

The highlight also of the said training was the video lesson on Poetic Devices which was proven effective especially to the learners who are exerting the most effort to learn. As a result, they were so amazed and engrossed in the video presentati­on. The motivation part captured the learners’ interest and it was sustained until the last part of the video presentati­on.

It is then relative that the use of video lesson is effective because of its easy access. Since the video instructio­nal material was saved on CD and can be played in VCD/ DVD player which most households have, thence, learners can watch the video material at home and have ample time to appreciate and understand its context. Thus, with this innovation, learners are trained to master the concepts and skills relating to the enhancemen­t of their skills and foster creative thinking as well.
