TO GIVE WHAT IS DUE

-

LAILA M. GOMEZ

“You cannot give what you do not have.” It may be a cliché but the thought it has remains valuable through time. The ultimate goal of being a teacher is to be able to give what the students deserve and sometimes even to walk an extra mile for them. But how could the students receive the best that they deserve if the teacher himself stopped learning.

It has been an ultimate goal of education to make learning for the students as well as for the teachers a lifelong endeavour. Life is learning itself. Students are not the end-user of the teaching-learning process, as a matter of fact, the students should be the reason for the educators to be compelled to pursue higher studies. Educators must not be complacent with what they already know. The existing education system is encouraging each and every teacher to further their studies for the purpose of personal and professional growth. This is not merely for the personal and professional satisfaction of the teacher but mostly is intended for the much improved quality of instruction.

Instruction, being an integral part of the curriculum, plays a crucial role in the holistic process of educating the students. Without competent and effective members of the faculty, it would be difficult for any school may it be of basic or tertiary education to cater the needs of the students in terms of content mastery and skill acquisition.

Keeping the passion for learning is an attitude that every educator must possess. Everyone must take every day as an opportunity to broaden his knowledge, hone his skills, and add widen his scope of experiences, may he be an educator or any other professional for the purpose of giving what is due to the students – to the nation. With this in mind, there could no other place to be with but excellence and progress.
