The CARES program is a holistic training and community mentoring program for parents, teachers, guidance counselors, and school administrators. The project aims to provide long-term college and career training support for Grade 10 students.
Co-presented by Coca-Cola Philippines, the 14th TAYO Week and Awarding Ceremony was attended by Edukasyon.ph representative Jaz Mal onda.
“As our country shifts to the K to 12 curriculum, grade 10 students will be facing senior high school choices early on and we are aware how hard that can be for them. That is why, as early as 2015, we ran career seminars to over 20,000 public high school students across the country,” he said.
“However, we learned that talking to the students alone is not enough because it takes a village to raise a child. To empower these students’ choices, we developed an innovative and creative training workshop that would provide education stakeholders such as teachers and parents the proper career guidance tools and methods,” Malonda added.
“We train teachers, school administrators, and even parents because we believe that career awareness is a shared responsibility between the school, the community, and the family. Our website serves as a long-term tool for career planning and guidance beyond our training sessions.”
Citing a recent study by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Malonda emphasized the importance of career education for students to make informed decisions. “One key cause of poverty in the country is the 48.2% high youth unemployment rate due to job mismatch or low relevance and unaffordable higher education,” he said.
“We seek to empower students every day by being the goto online portal for all important education to career information so students can discover the right track or course for them and make informed choices,” he further commented.
Edukasyon.ph is a social enterprise in the education technology sector that connects students to education opportunities through an online portal and promotes career awareness among the Filipino youth.
