NYC, NCCA launch 'Sine Kabataan'

-

Calling

young filmmakers, enthusiasts and hobbyists, this is for all of you.

The National Youth Commission (NYC) and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) spearhead Sine Kabataan, a short film competition for the youth that showcases the current issues affecting them.

“We believe that film making is one potent medium that the youth can utilize as an opportunity to express their sentiments about issues confronting their generation more creatively,” NYC Chairperson Aiza Seguerra said.

Through the Sine Kabataan project, the youth, being one of the most vulnerable sectors should also be given the chance to express themselves by utilizing short films.

Issues like mental health, bullying, youth in peacebuilding, domestic violence, teenage pregnancy, HIV/ AIDS, among others are not easy to deal with but because these are real life scenarios, the youth can draw inspiration from them in developing their short film.

“Kailangan na mapalawak ang pang unawa sa damdamin ng mga kabataan. Mahalagang malaman nating lahat kung ano ang kanilang pananaw sa mga kaganapan sa kapaligiran. Kadalasan ay naguugat ang di pagkakaunawaan dahil walang pamamaraan para maihayag ang saloobin nila. Ang Sine Kabataan is one great chance and a giant step to acknowledge the youth’s creativity and innovativeness in translating their real life’s journey into a short film,” Seguerra added.

Sine Kabataan is open to all filmmakers of ages 18 to 24 years old. Prizes in cash and in kind await the winners. Short films that will make it as finalists will be featured along with full feature counterparts during the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino in August.
