EFFECTIVE GOAL SETTING
In order for a goal to be effective, it must be specific but a bit harder and more challenging to achieve, often have a direct and positive impact on performance.
The goal set must be accepted and acknowledged by the staff and feedback must be given in order to develop areas for improvement.
“Proactive Work-makes things happen. Reactive work-gets things done”. Source: www.free-management-ebooks.com During planning, setting the goals is done collaboratively. Brainstorming of ideas takes place. As a school head, I must welcome all their ideas and analyze them critically. Definitely, teachers have different ways of working out the agreed goals of the schools. There are those teachers who work proactively. They are the ones who have the initiative to think of good programs or activities in order for the goals be achieved. These teachers can see opportunities for professional growth and development in what they are doing. Thus, they are always optimistic that they can make things happen.
On the other hand, there are teachers who are good in handling daily routines. Also, there are those who are good in dealing with urgent tasks and can resolve crisis easily. Likewise, there are those who can handle interruptions well. These teachers work reactively. Their way in achieving the set goals is far different from the proactive ones. They get things done when they are driven by events and the actions of other people.
It doesn’t matter how teachers work, be it proactive or reactive, as long as everyone is motivated to work toward success.
