PWDs in Bataan enjoy more opportunities
BALANGA CITY, Bataan — Bataeños who are part of the persons with disability (PWD) community should never feel deprived of their rights as Governor Albert Garcia vowed to give them equal opportunities in employment and lifestyle in the province.
During the recent Provincial Celebration of the 39th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week, Garcia cited projects in the province that are PWD-friendly.
He said the economic growth of the province attracts investments and employment opportunities including for PWDs such as business process outsourcing companies.
Garcia also said infrastructures built in the province are accessible to PWDs.
These include the soon-to-rise provincial capitol dubbed as The Bunker that will include six elevators and wheelchair ramps.
The annual celebration organized by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, in partnership with the Provincial Council on Disability Affairs , bannered the theme Karapatan at Pribilehiyo ng May Kapansanan: Isakatuparan at Ipaglaban!
PSWDO head and PCDA Vice-Chairman Marilyn Tigas said the celebration aimed to empower all PWDs and engage them in an event that will allow them to participate equally and effectively.
PWDs, who revelled in the cultural dance contest and raffle, also enjoyed free services from partner government offices.
These included free massage from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, free blood typing and blood pressure check from Philippine Red Cross, special education support from the Department of Education, and business assistance from Department of Trade and Industry.
The Office of Provincial Agriculturist gave away free vegetable seeds, and Philippine Information Agency distributed educational materials from its Roving Information Kiosk.
