CITY OF SAN FERNANDO— Vice-Mayor Jimmy Lazatin on Wednesday led the distribution of social pensions to the city’s senior citizens under the Social Pension Program for Indigent Senior Citizens (SPISC) program.

More than 800 senior citizens in the City of San Fernando received their quarterly pension amounting to P1,500 (not P2,000 as earlier stated).

Lazatin said that the program is a great help to seniors who do not have access to other sources of pensions because of their economic standing. He added that seniors of the city should be given the needed care and support from government especially for their medical needs.

Lazatin also called on qualified senior citizens to apply at the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), the City Social Welfare Development Office or a Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) regional office. Applicants or their representatives must bring an OSCA ID, birth certificate and certificate of indigency upon the application of the program.

However, only citizens aged 60 and above who have no pension from private or government institutions, regular income, or support from their families may enroll in the program while those who have pensions from Social Security System (SSS) or Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) are not qualified.

In 2011, the National Government through the DSWD, commenced the social pension program that aims to aid the indigent seniors aged 60 years old and above who have no pension from private or government institutions, regular income, or support from their families.
