GEARING HIGH ON THE 21ST CENTURY

-

BETSHEBA P. SIOSON

There is an enormous difference on the approaches that teachers of today are applying in their teaching compare of with the previous pedagogy and styles, ostensibly, from the traditional way to modern advancement and innovation that lead to the kind of learners we have today- the 21st century learners.

An extraordinary modification encompassing around the school where learners are now expose with modern technology, gadgets, and equipment use for effective delivery of instruction. Evidently, a very young learner is already aware on the use of iPod, tablet, cellular phone, laptop and other gadgets found at home. Relatively, these gadgets are use by teachers for more informational, holistic and realistic approaches to access new knowledge and learning to our pupils. More than that, pupils are more capable of engaging in learning at a higher level.

A clearer transformation on the aims of the department as stipulated on the K to 12 basic education curriculum, that is, to produce learners equipped with the four C’s: critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and communication. Constantly, pupils have an access to an array of modern technological tools and activities which call for innovation, problem solving, teamwork, decision-making, interactive discussion, simulation, and learning endeavour. They are now capable of working independently using technology that can create unique learning outputs and present in class in an interactive flamboyance the way they can. This is because of the emergence of technology which require a teacher to be catalyst and facilitator of learning,

Moreover, pupils explore their own abilities and skills; infuse technology in different activities and virtual presentation; solve real-world problems base on their own experience; and acquire authentic learning. Thus, it seemingly commensurate to our vision to gear up and prepare our 21st century learners for a better future. — oOo— The author is Teacher III at Concepcion Elementary School, Mexico North District
