Paging Engineer Don Dizon

-

The Asean ministers are in town. And officials and their staff members arrived in the country without much fanfare. The Clark Freeport in particular have been preparing for their stay for few days there. And in the hilly part of the Freeport, and that’s between the Fontana Leisure Resort and Sun Valley Resort, houses for delegates are still in construction. And you may have noticed how the road network inside Clark is being upgraded.

It is expected that when everyone is in town, everything is ready. It seems to me that, us we Filipinos are used to rush things ‘last two minutes ‘when we have visitors. We do the cleaning and sprucing not ahead of time. Very Filipino. It is cultural. I wish that the delegates will be given a tour of our communities, the peripheral areas particularly. Tour them all over town and see for themselves the condition of our roads and the thousands who lived dangerously on river banks. What they will see is good enough talking point on how to combat poverty in the ASEAN region. The agenda shouldn’t only focus on the controversy of the South China Sea or West Philippine Sea now.

Ugaling Pilipino- In my youth, I remember that when our town fiesta in Porac is forthcoming, that is November 24-25, every household will start the clean up and stores will run out of steel wool and floor wax. It is all in the preparation of the celebration where friends and relatives from other towns will make the visit. It is all for impression.

I also remember this. During the Marcos years when foreign dignitaries and celebrities were visiting the country, then First Lady Imelda R. Marcos was always on top of the preparations. One time she ordered then our late cabalen, Department of Public Works and Highways Undersecretary Aber P. Canlas to put flower beds along the routes where the dignitaries will pass. And with the specific instruction was that the flower beds must be surrounded by fresh bermuda grass. It was an impossible task given to Canlas, since the visitors will come in a day or two.

The ‘genius’ of Canlas made Imeldific happy. Aber Canlas painted apple green the withering grass around the flower beds. He he he. What a folly!

Tw eet s: + There’s so much improvement on the aesthetic look of Angeles City particularly the Balibago area and the heritage district in Barangay Sto. Rosario. Spaghetti wires hanging ugly were removed, but there are still many in other areas. Please Mayor Edpam, continue removing them.

+According to PAMCHAM officials led by President Jess Nicdao and Vice Chairman Rene Romero, there are discussions already with DPWH and other parties on the possible traffic jam that the SM Mall in Barangay Telebastagan will create once the mall is finished. Please fast track.

+ Attention Angeles City Engineer Don Dizon! The Apo road that straddles between L&S subdivision and Villa Angela and Villa Dolores subdivisions in Barangay Sto. Domingo is the main spine road used by thousands of motorists and it acutely needs repairs. The people living and those visiting these subdivisions are desperately seeking the intercession of Mayor Ed Pamintuan. Please lang po!
