MAGALANG — The Municipal Agriculture and Fishery Council (MAFC) here has commited to provide the public right information about the Avian Flu outbr eak.

Roger Santos, Chairman of MAFC, said that his group will help in providing right and true information coming from experts and legitimate sources on the Avian Influenza or Bird Fl u .

“We, the officers and members of the Municipal Agriculture and Fishery Council (MAFC) of Magalang, are united in keeping the public informed on the current health issue about Avian Flu. ,” Santos said.

He said that based on scientific studies and researches, Avian Flu is a strain of influenza virus that generally infects birds and other winged and feathered animals which causes severe respiratory illness.

The virus does not infect humans easily. Transmission to humans occurs when there is a close contact with infected live or dead species or H5N1-contaminated environments, according to him.

Santos said that Magalang is around 25 kilometers from San Luis but they still urge poultry raisers, game fowl owners and other farmers to be vigilant.

“With the supervision of the Local Government Unit of Magalang and the expertise of the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist, we believe that we can prevent Avian Flu outbreak in our town,” he said.

Santos also said that his group also encourage his townmates to patronize local poultry products to help the town in terms of economic activities.
